Some medical practices treat a person symptom by symptom, placing a band-aid on each issue as it arises. At The Fork Functional Medicine, we pride ourselves on conducting an in-depth assessment in order to understand what exactly is happening within the body, so we can create a holistic, individualized approach for each patient.
Functional medicine is the marriage of centuries of scientific advancement with ancestral wisdom. The future of health care embodies personalized, scientific-based, patient-centered care blending holistic, integrative, and allopathic medicine with the purpose of treating the whole person and seeking the root cause of illness and imbalance. This is what we strive to do.
When you schedule a comprehensive consultation with Chyrl, you can expect to spend a lot more time with her than you would with a conventional provider. You can also expect to do a lot of talking; a large part of Functional Medicine is exploring your detailed personal and family history, the circumstances around your first symptoms, and the experiences you may have had with other healthcare providers. Chyrl conducts an investigation to uncover the underlying causes of your health problems through careful history taking, physical examination, and laboratory testing.
By investing this time and effort up front, many people find they finally get to the bottom of perplexing problems that have eluded other clinicians for years. The goal is optimal wellness through a deep understanding of the patient’s biochemical, genetic, and lifestyle factors.
This is personalized health care - Your health. Your genetics. Your history. Your treatment. Our emphasis is creating a plan for achieving the highest degree of holistic health and wellness for our patients by catering your care to your individual needs. Our functional integrative approaches to wellness are part of creating a plan unique to your unique body and circumstances. No two people are the same so no two successful treatment options are likely to be the same either.
At The Fork Functional Medicine Chyrl takes her time with each and every patient that walks through our doors in order to get to the root of the issue. If you have specific health concerns you’d like to address, or if you’re simply not feeling your best self and don’t know why, call and book an appointment with Chyrl.
In addition to our functional medicine practice - we also offer a community clinic. We felt that the community lacked a point of care for non-emergent illnesses and injuries adn this was a wonderful way we could be of service to Leipers Fork and the surrounding communities. The community clinic is open for the treatment of issues such as: minor injuries, colds, flu, pink eye, ear infections, sinus issues, strep and bronchitis. Additionally, we offer a variety of routine/preventative services for patients such as physicals (school, sports, and annual), management of less complex chronic conditions, and scheduling of preventative health screenings. We only treat non-life threatening conditions. It is crucial to remember that if you feel you may be experiencing a life threatening condition you will need to call 911 immediately or go to the emergency room. We are not equipped to deal with these kinds of emergent conditions.
The community clinic is a place for anyone in the community, ages 5 and up, to receive traditional care for non-emergent illnesses and injuries. The community clinic is open Monday & Friday from 8 AM - 5 PM by appointment. Same day appointments are often available during operating hours on Monday and Friday... we encourage you to call first.
When it comes to brain health, early detection is everything. We provide testing for the detection of cognitive decline such as early-onset dementia and Alzheimer's as well as protocals for addressing these. We focus on creating a customized treatment plan to slow down or minimize the effects on the brain.
We treat stealth pathogens, which are bacteria and viruses hidden in the body that evade misdirect or suppress the body’s immune response. The persistence of these pathogens leads to chronic disease (vector-borne illnesses such as Lyme’s) and viral conditions such as Epstein Barr virus, parasites, and others that can lead to autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, cancer and other conditions. When we treat these stealth pathogens, we use a holistic approach and leave no stone unturned.

Food is the core of so many issues, for both the body and the mind. Changes in diet often lead to positive changes in mood and overall wellbeing. We work together to treat chronic illness and wellness challenges such as:
50% of adults have at least one chronic health condition, 25% of adults have two or more chronic health conditions, chronic diseases account for 86% of all healthcare costs ($3.2 trillion in 2015 and growing). It is time to approach our health differently.
According to Dr. Mark Hyman (leader of the Institute for Functional Medicne and MD Director, Center of Functional Medicine Cleveland Clinic), “Conventional medicine’s penchant for managing and suppressing symptoms with procedures and pills, should be replaced with the functional-medicine model, which seeks to identify the root causes that give rise to these symptoms. We’re at a serious transition point. Functional medicine is the type of medicine that will be the future of healthcare.”
